Inji puli


Dish name: Inji Puli

Can be used as a side dish for Idli and VenPongal.

Ingredients Required:

Tamarind - Big lemon size
Ginger - finely chopped - 1 table spoon
Greenchillies - finely chopped - 1/2 table spoon
curry leaves - little
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tea spoon
Salt to taste.
Chutney dhall powder - 1 table spoon

For seasoning;
Mustard,
urad dhal
Bengal gram
Asafoetida - a pinch

Method:
In a Kadai, add some oil, First put mustard, urad dhal, Bengal gram and Asafoetida.
Then add chopped green chillies and Ginger, wait till it gets sautted.

Then add curry leaves.
Add turmeric powder
Now pour the thick extract of tamarind to the kadai
Then add water.
(to one part of thick extract u can add one to one and a half part water)
Add salt to taste.
When the mixture comes to a boil, alllow it to boil for five minutes.
Subsequently take a table spoon of chutney(fried gram) dhal powder and add water to it to make a paste.
Then add the chutney dhal powder paste to the boiling Inji puli.
Also add a little bit of Jaggery to the boiling mixture.
Allow to boil for five minutes.
Now Inji puli is ready to serve.
We call it as pachi pulusu in telugu at our home.
It is delicious with idly, dosa and pongal.
